Hello,
I would like to customize the page templates of my website. I usually create a child theme in order to do this, but the theme I bought here (vw Gardening) is built with a plugin : how can I create custom page templates (and other code customizations) that won’t be overwritten with the next update of my theme ?

And there is a problem with the category template. If my category contains posts with a specific template from the theme (like “VW Page With Right Sidebar”, for example), this template will be used for the category page (and that is not really a good idea !!).
You can have a look here :
category using the “archive.php” template : http://locavore-sologne.fr/category/produits-locaux/biere-sologne
and category using VW Page With Right Sidebar template : http://locavore-sologne.fr/category/produits-locaux (and that is not what I want !!).
I think that the problem comes from a function in this file : plugin_settings.php
Help, please !!

Hi,
my issue is on category pages.
For the category “Produits locaux”, I have this : http://locavore-sologne.fr/category/produits-locaux
And that is not what I want ! After long searches I found that the template used on this page is “VW Page With Right Sidebar template” (instead of archive.php, the right template for category pages).
I also found that this problem does not always occur : for example, if you go to this category page : http://locavore-sologne.fr/category/produits-locaux/biere-sologne
I have understood that the choice of the template depends on the first post shown on the category page : if this post has a template defined, this template is also used for the category page, and that is obviously a bug in your theme.

I found a solution by adding the line if ( is_category() ) { return $template; } in the function public function view_project_template( $template )
Please answer me :
Is it possible to customize the theme (like I usually do by creating a child theme) ?
If it is not possible I need another theme.
